A Nonparametric Group Runs Control Chart for Process Dispersion Using Sign Statistic Based on Deciles
Abstract
In the present article, we propose a nonparametric group runs control chart for process dispersion based on in- control deciles. The sign statistic defined in this article is based on second and eight in-control deciles which is a modified version of the sign statistic based on in-control quartiles. The performance of the nonparametric group runs control is measured using average run length, standard deviation of run length and percentiles. We compare performance of the proposed control chart with its competitor charts such as nonparametric synthetic and nonparametric cumulative sum chart for process dispersion based on in-control deciles. The comparison study reveals that the proposed nonparametric group runs control chart for process dispersion is more efficient than the nonparametric synthetic and cumulative sum charts to detect early out-of-control shifts in the process dispersion. We provide numerical example for the construction of the group runs control chart.
