A Sustainability Assessment of Green IOT Systems: A Systematic Literature Review
Abstract
The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) has facilitated the creation of diverse sustainable applications and technologies leading to their rapid proliferation. This systematic literature review examines the concept of green IoT systems and their sustainability impacts. The study analyses articles published between 2013 and 2022, which focus on green IoT systems and their sustainability performance. The result reveals that green IoT systems have the potential to positively impact various sustainability dimensions, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and environmental conservation. However, the literature also highlights the challenges associated with the adoption and implementation of these systems, including technical, economic, and social barriers. This study provides an essential understanding of the potential of green IoT systems to drive sustainability and offers practical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to promote sustainable development. By emphasizing the benefits of green IoT systems, this review encourages decision- makers to prioritize and invest in these systems to create a sustainable future.
