Control Charts for Monitoring Parameters of the Generalized Exponential Distribution
S K. Khilare , D T Shirke
Abstract
The two-parameter generalized exponential distribution has been studied for various applications of lifetime modelling. The generalized exponential distribution can be used as an alternative to the gamma or Weibull distribution in many situations. In this paper, control charts for monitoring parameters of the generalized exponential distribution are proposed (upper-sided, lower-sided and both-sided control charts). Performance of the proposed control charts is measured using average run length. For shifts in shape parameter in positive direction from its in-control value, the upper-sided control chart performs significantly better. The upper-sided control chart performs significantly better for decreasing shifts in scale parameter and also for simultaneous shifts in both parameters from its in-control value. The lower-sided control chart performs better for decreasing shifts in shape parameter and increasing shifts in scale parameter from its in control value. The two-sided control chart performs better for decreasing simultaneous shifts in both the parameters.  Proposed control chart is very easy and simple for practitioners.
