On Use of Lindley Distribution for Profit Analysis of a Three Unit Cold Standby System Subject to Arrival Time of the Server

Abstract

A cold standby system of three similar units is analyzed stochastically by considering Lindley distribution for the variables associated with failure, arrival and repair times. The system starts its operation with a single unit and other two similar units are taken up in cold standby. The arrival time is given to the server who handles all repair activities. The reliability characteristics such as mean time to system failure, availability and busy period of the server are determined in steady state. The expressions for these measures are derived by using semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique. For arbitrary values of the shape parameter, the behaviour of MTSF, availability and profit function is examined. The results are shown graphically and numerically.
