Stochastic Analysis of a Two Unit Cold Standby System with Installation Time of the Unit
Abstract
A cold standby system of two identical units has been analyzed stochastically by considering the installation time of the unit. Initially, a single unit is in operation and second unit is in cold standby which is in use after the failure of one unit. The failure rate of each unit is taken as constant while the distributions of repair rate and the rate by which unit undergoes for installation are assumed as arbitrary with different probability density functions. The reliability characteristics such as mean time to system failure, availability, expected number of visits of the server and busy period of the server due to repair and installation of the unit are determined in steady state. The expressions for these measures are derived by using semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique. For arbitrary values of the parameters, the behavior of MTSF, availability and profit function are examined. The results are shown graphically and numerically.
