Supplementary Variable Approach for Analysis of Performance Measures of Single-Unit System with Preventive Maintenance beyond Warranty

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to carry out various performance measures
of a single-unit system with preventive maintenance (PM) beyond warranty
by using supplementary variable technique. The unit is considered as
degraded after repair beyond warranty. There is single repair facility
available with the system for PM and repair of the failed new/degraded
unit. Any failure during warranty is rectified by the manufacturer free
of cost to the users. The failure time distribution follows negative
exponential while PM and repair times distribution are taken as
arbitrary with different probability density functions. The expressions
for various performance measures of system such as reliability, mean
time to system failure (MTSF), availability and profit function have
been determined. Steady state behavior of the system has been examined
by using Abel’s lemma. The numerical results for reliability and profit
function are also obtained by taking particular values to various
parameters and repair cost.
