The Impact of Social Media on Data Privacy and Security
Abstract
In the last few years social media has made an important place in our lives. We ourselves have also given it quite a place into our lives. The usage of social media eventually grew up during the COVID-19 time. Chatting and sharing our life events have become the new way of socialization. Irrespective of age groups, every person normally scrolls through their Smartphone at-least once a day and so providing more data to the social media companies. Whether we post something or we like something or even we tap on something, every detail corresponding to an action is stored in the databases of social media companies. This stored data is used to study and analyse the user’s behaviour that provide companies to target the users for ads. Thus companies profit a lot by this. But the storage and processing of this huge data bring concerns to our tables, resulting in great impact on security and privacy. This paper looks forward to comprehensively study the impact of social media on data privacy and security. There can also be some suggestions that users can take, to keep themselves safe from cyber-crimes.
