Wear Behavior Optimization of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Al7075 Metal Matrix Composites using Taguchi Method
M. Rajesh , C. R. Mahesha
Abstract

The present work was carried out to understand the effect of multiwalled carbon nanotubes reinforcements when used as the reinforcements in the Al7075 metal matrix composites. The stir casting route was employed to prepare the composites with varying wt% of carbon nanotubes in 2wt%, 4wt% and 6wt% contents. The standard specimens were prepared and the wear test was done with pin on disc machine and the  tests were performed by selecting the load(L) 10,20 and 30N  and speed(S) 200,400 and 600rpm and sliding distance(D) 1.5,2.0 and 2.5km  as the control factors the response wear rates were subjected to the statistical analysis using taguchi method. The design of experiments was according to l27 orthogonal array. The microstructural investigation of worn surfaces was done through scanning electron microscope from the result the optimum Al7075/multiwalled carbon nanotubes composites for minimal rate were evaluated  and the effects of load, speed and sliding distance on wear rate was studied on the basis of smaller is the best.
